The Sweet Spot

It feels great when we "hit" the sweet spot of things. I have a few to share and I'd love to hear about yours too.
The Sweet Spot

Something about the phrase "the sweet spot" got me thinking about the sweet spot of things in my life.  I can think of the sweet spot on the bat when I perfectly hit that softball during the games played with the family.  I can think of the sweet spot on the tennis racket I used (briefly) when I hit the racketball and blasted my opponent.  How about that sweet spot on the rose I found while wandering through the Des Moines Art Center's rose garden.  I guess you could think about almost anything having a sweet spot: The spot where your newborn baby nestles perfectly in your arms, that cut of steak you grilled to perfection, and the spot on a sun-drenched and secluded beach you found while exploring.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out the sweet spot with my medications.  There truly is a right way and a wrong way to take these "as needed" meds, and I've invested a good bit of time trying to figure them out.  The difficulty lies in the timing.  For example, with anti-nausea meds, you need to have them in your system before nausea starts.  After a while, you begin to know when to take them, so you don't get nausea, but it takes few tries to get it right.  Once you figure it out and you're knocking out nausea before it starts, you've found your sweet spot.

I'm also experiencing more pain than before – the tumor(s) are growing.  The pain meds are new to me, and I've always been hesitant to take them for fear of getting addicted and all the other harmful things you hear about happening to people on opioids.  There is a point when the pain gets too much that I start to feel I'm irrational about it.  I need to treat the pain, and the pain meds are how I can do that.  So, after talking with the doc about it, I've started a daily regimen of pain killers that I hope will hit the sweet spot and obliterate that pain from my everyday life.  I'll let you know how it goes at some point.

What are the sweet spots you can think of in your life?  No matter how big or small, I'm sure you can think of a few.
